Visit of representatives International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD)

6On 28th April 2016, Ambassador Stefano Toscano, Director of Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) with associates Ms. Helen Gray, GICHD Advisor Land Release and Ms. Andrea von Siebenthal, GICHD Communication Manager visited Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) Humanitarian Disarmament Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina and NPA Global Training Centre for Mine and Explosive Detection Dogs (GTC).

In the first part of the visit GICHD delegation visited NPA areas of operation in the communities of Ularice and Makljenovac in Doboj region, where delegation was introduced with NPA activities and results in implementation of mine action intervention in mine affected communities in Doboj region. Delegation attended presentation on different demining methods used by NPA in land release of mine contaminated areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina

After the field visit, the guests from GICHD visited NPA base in Blagovac, Vogošća where they were introduced with process and results of the Pilot Project Targeted Technical Survey of mine suspected hazardous areas in the municipality of Travnik, conducted by NPA in cooperation with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Mine Action Centre in 2015.
Visit finished by a tour through facilities of NPA Global Training Centre for mine and explosive detection dogs. GICHD delegation attended the demonstration of the process of training dogs for mine and explosive detection and use of special detection dogs for targeted investigation.
